Computer Science and Engineering Holds Annual Awards Banquet

Reddin, and Mr. Daniel PogueThe Department of Computer Science and Engineering held its annual Spring Banquet and Awards Ceremony on April 22, 2009 at the Pebble Creek Country Club in College Station. Mr. Thomas E. Reddin MS '65 and Colonel Curtis Carver MS '93 and PhD '01 received the department's Distinguished Former Student Awards, which consisted of commemorative plaques and $1000 scholarships in their honor. The 2009 Reddin Scholarship recipient is Mr. Daniel Pogue, a Masters student in computer science and the Carver Scholarship recipient is Mr. Jonathan Wilfong, a senior in computer engineering.

Mr. Reddin is recognized for his outstanding record of achievement in the information technology and information services fields as well as bringing credit and honor to Texas A&M University and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Colonel Carver, Vice Dean of the Resources for the United States Military Academy, is recognized for his contributions to our nation and others as a military leader as well as the innovation and drive for excellence of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University.

Following the former student award presentations, the computer science and engineering student organizations presented student, faculty and staff awards for excellence in leadership, teaching, research and service. The night's other awardees were

  • Mr. Yoonjin Kim: Graduate Research Award
  • Dr. Walter Daugherity: Undergraduate Faculty Teaching Award
  • Dr. James Caverlee: Graduate Faculty Teaching Award
  • Mr. Suneil Mohan & Mr. Gabe Knezek: Teaching Assistant Teaching Award
  • Dr. Donald Friesen: Faculty Service Award
  • Mrs. Valerie Sorenson: Staff Excellence Award
  • Mr. Brian Eoff: Mentoring Award
  • Mr. David Mackey: Undergraduate Leadership Award
  • Ms. Lydia Tapia: Graduate Leadership Award
